Monte James - 2.5 Years Old

Just a little Monte update since he doesn't get monthly updates anymore.  (AHHHH I just realized that I just did my last monthly Kit update!! *tear*) (This post turned out to be super long but I write these kind of posts for us to enjoy later and for hopefully the boys to enjoy later and there was just so much that I wanted to remember about my charming little stinker!)

- 32 pounds

- 2t-3t clothes.  3T shirts fit hit great, 2T pants are still way too long for the most part! haha A problem he'll have for the rest of his life I would bet! Sorry kid...

- 1 two year old molar all the way through, 1 almost all the way through, 1 less than half way through and swollen and blistery looking *tear* and 1 barely starting to break through also swollen and painful looking.  Needless to say we've had lots of trouble sleeping lately, poor guy!

- Can count to 10 but often skips 8.

- Knows the whole alphabet, well capital letters anyway.

- He finally clicked and mostly knows his colors.  We kinda did things backwards and learned letters before colors...haha When we first started really working on them he would answer so emphatically every time and be dead wrong! Me - "What color is this apple?" Him - "BLUEEEEE!!!!" Me - "NO!!" haha

- LOVES running!! What a weirdo! haha He also loves jumping and jumps all over everywhere!

- Loves climbing and is truly good and smart about it.  I never worry about him falling, Kit on the other hand, whew gotta watch that boy!

- Bedtime 7:30-8, usually wakes up between 7:00-7:30, naps 1:30-2 to 3:00-4:00  He had turned into a GREAT sleeper until this whole teething thing started back up.

- Potty trained! Yay! Still has an accident every once in a while but not very often and there's usually a valid reason when he does.  Naps in underwear fine but is still in a pull up at night.  He often wakes up dry and sometimes wakes up to go potty in the night but we haven't tried underwear at night in a long time.  (We accidentally left him in underwear a couple times, once successfully, once not so much)

- Always thinks that the "bary die" (battery died) when something doesn't work whether it has a battery or not.

- Is sleeping in a twin bed successfully a.k.a. hasn't fallen out.  We have a bed frame that I am currently repainting but figured we'd we'd start with the mattress on the floor so in case he did fall out he wouldn't be far off the ground.

Apparently he decided to try a floor nap too!  He slept two plus hours so I guess it was comfortable enough!

We have discovered him sleeping in some pretty hilarious positions!

And of course, here he is sleeping with his ice cream scoop!  It's what all the cool kids are doing!

- Still loves the kitties or "kikis" as he calls them  Whenever they sneak into the house, we often ask Monte to go catch them because they'll run away from us but not him even though he carries them like this all the time!

- Playing and digging in the dirt is one of his latest favorite activities!

- I sorta kinda really love this picture!  His favorite too small crooked hat, favorite too big crooked shirt and his Daddy's hand!

- We try to involve him in the work, whether dishes or loading bulls, as often as we can.  We want to raise hard working young men!

- He loves making animals pretend to eat or drink!

- Can actually drive sorta around the ranch in Gunnar's lap. (and thinks it's super funny to roll the window up on Mama when she's trying to ask him a question!)

- LOVES going on the four wheeler

- Asks to "go play" at church, aka go into the 2s and 3s.

- Has started calling the cows, "moos" lately.  "Go check moos?"

- Can finally hold up two fingers and likes to tell people he is "two years old" all the time.  This is a recent fascination!  He also finds it fascinating and tells me often that Kit is "one year old" He also asks if Mama and Daddy are two years old too.

- Seems fixated on Gunnar working.  He tells me all the time "Daddy work HARD!"  Which I of course confirm!  He also seems fixated on where we all are, "Daddy HOME," Mama home!" "Daddy work"

- We've seen a little mean streak start to come out with Kit sometimes lately.  He has knocked him down or hit him a few times, or tells him "NO!" sometimes.  Most of the time though he is super sweet and likes to give Kit kisses.

- Always takes his plate to the kitchen after meals and just the last couple days has done it without being reminded and is always so excited and proud of himself when he remembers! "plate chitten" He has also started saying please and thank you without being prompted sometimes.

- Asks to "dalk Daddy?" everyday!

-I usually try to make him clean up a mess he makes that he knows he shouldn't, aka draw with chalk all over his door and dresser, the problem is that he thinks cleaning is a fun game so I'm not sure how well that's working as a discipline measure but hopefully it's instilling some kind of cleanliness or something into his character.

- Reading is his jam!  He looks at books so much!

- Always carries his drink or snack around with him when he's out and about!  He takes his snacks very seriously!

- Loves helping Daddy and "working" with tools, even in his underwear!

- Really took a leap in the water this summer.  He got confidant and lost his timidity.  We got an old mineral trough out of one of the ranch's fields that made a perfect "pool" for him.  At first he wouldn't let go of the edge and by then end of the summer he was sticking his face in and "swimming" on his stomach!  He also got to swim at the McClellans several times and grew in confidence with each visit, in one of those arm/chest floatie things.

- Loves to pray at bedtime.  One of us usually says a prayer and has him repeat it and it's just about the sweetest thing you'll ever hear.  He's also started asking questions like "Nonte love Jesus?" Or "Grandad love Jesus too?" It's so sweet!  He's started having some bad dreams at night so we always pray with him for Jesus to protect him.  Sometimes if we forget to pray with him he'll ask, "Dalk Jesus?" Which is most likely a stalling tactic, let's be real, but he also does really seem to enjoy our little prayer times.

- Went through a watermelon obsession.... addiction?? I don't know but that boy thought of little else for a while!  I got to where I would tell him that we could have watermelon when Daddy got home from work.  Gunnar would walk in the door and Monte would run up to him asking, "wa-er meown? wa-er meown?"

We would FaceTime Gunnar and Monte would ask, "wa -er meown??"

He would hear Gunnar's truck and he would run to the door yelling "wa-er meown!!"

- Like I have said, always climbing, always "helping" Daddy aka keep Daddy company!

- Went through a "road," aka anything lined up in a line, phase. "Build woad!!"

- Has really gotten into stickers, coloring, and scissors the last couple months.  I know it's so good for his mental and motor development so I'll bite the bullet and spend extra time pulling sticker upon sticker out of the rug and vacuum "confetti" off of everywhere!

I mean look at that concentration!

At first he had to use two hands to open the scissors but can open them with one hand now!

We love you Monte James!
