So because we just happened to find out the gender of our baby the week of Thanksgiving, we decided to do a reveal party for each of our families! Gunnar's cousin, Emily, helped me find ideas and I decided to make a dry erase guessing board to use. I had a frame we got for our wedding we didn't have room for in our new house, it was out in the garage collecting dust and cobwebs, so I decided to repurpose it.
I gave it a quick sand with some fine sand paper to take the shine off so the paint would stick.
I already had some blue spray paint from other projects so at this point this project had costed me nothing! I took the glass out and gave it a couple coats of paint.
I thought about taping a chevron pattern but the frame was so curvy I didn't really have the time or patience for that. I did try to tape down a stencil but that didn't work either.
Fail #3
I finally decided to just go half and half so I taped off half the frame and, after a trip to Walmart and Lowes for the perfect color pink, painted the frame.
Next came the inside. Gunnar helped me pick stickers out. It was his idea to do the mustache and lips! I love it! The paper I got to use as the background was too short so I had to experiment with how to make it fit and look the best.
I already had a star punch and pink and blue card stock in my craft stash so I just punched out a bunch of stars for the borders. I really liked how they turned out because they are bright enough to creat a border but subtle enough to not be the first thing that grabs your attention when you look at the board. I didn't want the border to take away from the boy/girl stickers. After a few failed attempts to get the letters centered and spaced correctly, I had a great final result. Gunnar chose the Jesse and Woody too! They were the perfect fun final touch!
Tried the pink side of the frame on the boy side of the paper, but didn't like that as much so I ended up flipping it so that the blue was with the boy, and the pink with the girl.
Final Result! Love!
Here's what it looked like after my side of the family had a chance to guess. Girl was ahead by one! We used cupcakes to reveal the gender (more on that in another post)
After everyone guessed, it still ended up with the guess for girl ahead by one.
I know having a guessing board was actually not really necessary but it was super fun and I love how it turned out! If anyone ever wants to borrow it let me know! I'm sure at some point I'll end up repurposing it again for something else!
