Steele Samuel - One Month

It is truly amazing how quickly those first few weeks FLY by!!  I knew this and really did a good job of trying to soak in every snuggle and moment and it still flew by!  Can't believe that our little big guy is already one month old!

- Weight:
24 hours old - 9 lbs.
8 days old - 10 lbs.
3 weeks old - 11 lbs. 3 oz.
So let's just say that the boy is a good eater and that I produce ice cream! He has another wellness check at 6 weeks so we'll see where he is then.

- 0-3 months clothes.  Outgrew any newborn stuff pretty much the first week or so!
- Size 1 and 2 diapers.
- Watched his first hunting show with Daddy.

Daddy likes being funny...

- Gruntiest baby I've every met!! So much grunting!

- The boys loved holding him at first.  As he has gotten bigger and more wiggly they like it less.  I think when he's big enough to start smiling and interacting with them they will eat it up!

- Nurses on demand like a champ!

- Liked being swaddled the first week or so then was pretty much over it.

- Seems to really enjoy baths!

- Had his first couple chiropractor adjustments.  You could visibly see him relax and sigh.

- Likes sleeping on our chests.

- Slept in the cosleeper beside our bed at night and pretty much naps all over!  Now I usually put him down in his crib for the first stretch of the night then put him in the cosleeper after his first feeding.

- Went to TG for the first time.  Gotta get those blinds ready! (photo by Monte, he loves taking photos and is actually improving)

- Doesn't seem to mind tummy time.  He can already hold his head up really well so that helps.  If he's having tummy troubles then he doesn't like to be on his stomach, I guess it mashes against him and makes it hurt worse?

- I guess he could technically be described as a colicky baby so far.  He spits up quite a bit and has had quite a bit of gas troubles.  I am working on figuring out how to change my diet to eliminate the culprit and that has seemed to help quite a bit.  For a while, if he was awake he was fussy pretty much all the time.  That was hard.  He has improved lately and actually enjoys just kicking around on his back now some of the time.

Monte's face perfectly demonstrates how he feels about spit up!

- Took a bottle like a champ!  Didn't drink enough to fully get satisfied but I was in the room and he knew it so I bet that if I wasn't there, he would have been more inclined to drink up.  Kit would never take a bottle so this makes me hopeful.

- Didn't lose any hair, actually it has seemed to fill in more since birth.  I guess he could still lose it...?

- Gets about 30 Kit kisses a day!

- No sleep routine yet but he does follow a pattern in general. Awake most of the morning, with a cat nap or two, takes a long afternoon/early evening nap, another cat nap or two in the evening, then goes down for the night generally between 8:30 and 10:00.  Generally nurses sometime around 1ish and again around 4ish then I'm not totally sure what happens after that because I usually pull him into bed with us after that. If he's not having tummy troubles he sleeps great If he is, then it's pretty hard to get him back to sleep a lot of the time.

The cheeks! The fat roll! So squishy!

- Gets the worst hiccups ever!  They seem so painful and make him upset.  We tried gripe water and it works like magic, thank goodness.

- Had an ingrown toenail!  Seriously!  Everyone I told had the exact same reaction... "How did that happen?!"  Followed by, "What do you do about that?"  To which we did not have a good answer.  He was born with triangle ish shaped toenails and one of them grew into the skin.  We were able to keep it from getting infected thankfully, and just gently worked the skin back and the toe nail out.  It finally popped out of the skin and has improved greatly.  His nail is a normal shape now so I don't think it will happen again.

- Had clogged tear ducts.  The left one resolved within a week or two but the right one is still clogged.  We are working on it though and it seems to be improving.

- Found his thumb, not sure how I feel about this...  He's only done it once but he's gotten close many times.  We'll see if this becomes a thing or not.

- First time in the wrap...It looks like I was strangling him!  haha It was isn't actually on his neck at all!  I haven't actually worn him forward besides just trying it out but have worn him facing me several times and he's done great and conked right out both times!

- Has taken several stroller rides, even on a super cold day and seems to like the stroller.

- Dream smiles all the time!  We have gotten a few reactionary smiles too.

- Now that he is happy without being held all the time he has started cooing and getting excited when he finds you and makes eye contact.

- Sleeps with his wrist bent like this !! Gunnar sleeps like this sometimes and so do BOTH other boys!!  Must be a strong gene!! Makes my wrist hurt looking at it!

- Has gone to 50/50 with the pacifier.  Sometimes he likes it and it helps so much and sometimes he acts like you're putting poison into his mouth!
