Cooking Hotdogs

The boys ended up pretty sick the week after we moved.  So that was no fun.  Poor Monte was fighting a 104 temp. at times!  Kit didn't get nearly as sick thankfully.  I mean one morning Monte crawled up on the couch by himself, covered himself with a blanket, and fell asleep at 9:30 in the morning!  You know he's sick if he's doing that!

Last weekend the boys were finally feeling better, still tired but not sick anymore, the sun was out again so we decided to finally enjoy our new place some after being stuck inside all week and cook hotdogs outside for supper!

It was actually kinda difficult because everything is still so saturated Gunnar had a hard time getting anything to light, but finally we had a little fire going and the boys were thrilled!

They had fun finally getting to explore a little! Check out our new smoker!

Fascinated!

Gunnar teaching Kit how to roll a hotdog into a tortilla.  We didn't have any buns... Kit was ready!!

Hotdog heaven!  (more like tortilla heaven, they rarely get bread so they were happy campers!)

I was so happy to see that smiling face again!

Check out that barn...errrr house... back there!

We decided to walk down to the creek after we had eaten.  Where we are standing was under water just a day or two earlier.

RAIN

Guys!! This rain!! CRAZY!!  Gunnar did some research and found out that October 2018 has been the 4th wettest month on record in San Angelo history.  So the week we moved in, we were actually trapped in for a couple days while it rained. One day we decided to drive around where we could and see what everything looked like.   So. Much. Water!

Pretty much the story lately whenever I ask them to do anything.
Monte, "I don't want to..." Kit, "OK!!!"

It was about 3 ft. in the middle!  Yikes!  I doubt it usually gets this bad but there is just no where for the water to go, the ground is so saturated.

We managed to get down to the low water crossing.  We can normally take a short cut across the creek over this low water crossing but this day...

Not a short cut anymore!!

(Isn't Kit's little voice just the best?!)

This is what it looked like the first time I drove over it...

I feel like Monte's face says it all!!

We had fun driving around and seeing at the water!  People's yards, driveways, gates, and ponds were overflowing.

There were ponds and rivers everywhere that were nonexistent a week ago!

Again, his face is perfect!!

After we got back to the house, we decided to walk down to the creek on our place to check it out.  We had been down there just a couple days before so we were curious to see how different it would look.

So normally it's about 5-10 ft. wide....

Those trees are not normally in the water...

They should be looking down into the creek, not standing in it.

Family selfie...fail!

So later that week I had to drive into town to clean our old house and run some errands and my route takes me over the equalization channel between the North and South Pools of Twin Buttes.  There were all kinds of people driving out to see it, rain like this is memorable and rare around here, and I actually ran into a friend there who both of us have lived in or around Angelo our whole lives and have never once seen that much water running through there!  It was crazy!

We Moved

So we bought a new house!! We had been looking for a new place with a little land ever since we moved back into our place in Angelo from the ranch and we finally found one!  There were some complications with figuring out flood insurance, we're on the creek, and we had to have it resurveyed into one piece of property instead of two, so we had a longer than normal closing time but we're finally here!

We closed on Kit's birthday so we kept joking that we were being awesome parents and buying him a house for his birthday!

Penny came over and stayed with the boys while we closed and let them play in the trailer!

Our plan was to move a load Friday then move all essentials Saturday and stay there Saturday night but there was such a high chance of rain Saturday we decided to move essentials Friday and move everything else Saturday so that if the rain caused us to have to cancel we would still be able to live at the new house.

This move was so much less stressful than the last one!  One, we didn't have a time deadline so that definitely took the pressure off.  Two, we had so much help this time!! Seriously guys, we have the best friends and family!  Eight or nine friends showed up Saturday and helped us pack, load, and unload!  And I didn't take one single picture! My in laws helped pack and move Friday and kept the boys Saturday while we moved! My mom came out Saturday night and unpacked my kitchen.  Sara and Wyatt also moved the same weekend!  My family likes to do things all together!

It was a good thing we changed our plans and moved essentials Friday because we got trapped in Saturday morning.  The ground is so saturated and it rained so much Friday night/Saturday morning that the draws were running so high we couldn't drive through one of them for a while.  We got to meet some of our new neighbors though!  All standing there in the road watching the water and waiting for it to go down enough to drive through.  I don't think this normally happens with a big rain but the ground is so saturated the water has no where to go!

Here's our new front yard!  Monte was playing chase with Annie.

We're pretty excited about this!

Sunday after church, we went back to the old house for the last few things and to clean.  The poor boys were so tired by this point!

Poor Kit bo fell asleep against the wall!

I sat down and he instantly went right back to sleep!

This picture, while blurry, sums up how to the boys felt about moving.  Monte throwing a fit because we had to go and he had to be all done watching Thomas the Train and Kit sound asleep on the floor!

A seriously huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped us!  You guys are the best!!

Kit Lawson - Two Years Old

Kit turned 2....two weeks ago! We decided to be super awesome parents and buy him a house for his birthday!  More on that later...  I can't believe he's TWO!  For some reason this has been the hardest birthday for me.  I think because I don't have another baby yet so the thought that my BABY isn't a baby anymore just makes me so sad, and yet, he's just learning and growing so much and getting cuter by the day and his little vocabulary is just the best!

We did manage to fill his room with balloons and celebrate him a little before we had to leave.  He is such a sweet little joy!

The boy gives the sweetest kisses! I love when he gives me cheek kisses!  I ask him for them multiple times a day!

Aunt Penny came over and stayed with the boys while we went to our closing and played "bury the boys in the bed!!"

- Is black and white opposite of Monte.  This picture is a great example!  Monte at 18 months old, Kit at 2 years old.  Same shirt, same fit, six month difference!  Monte is big and thick, a line backer in the making!  Kit is slight and small but one solid muscle!  He can do leg lifts and chins ups without help!  Monte whines, Kit throws fits!  Monte sleeps late, Kit wakes up early. They're both the best ever!

- Loves his sweet baby Adeline!  Whenever we're around them, we often discover Kit just sitting beside her petting her, trying to lay on her (we're working on that one!), or just hanging out.

- Has the sweetest little voice!  Says things like "OK!!" "Alllmost!" "Not yet..." "Maybe so?" "Mama is da best EVER!" "See you later."

- Seems to be a morning person.  Wakes up happy and raring to go in the mornings!
- Has definitely entered the "wants to do everything Monte does" phase!! Often the first thing he asks me when he wakes up from his nap is, "where's Monte??"  or "what's Monte doing?"
- Loves the trash truck!  The highlight of his Fridays!

- Has what we like to call "Einstein Jr" hair!  Crazy!  I have trimmed a little rat tail off the back and one long piece that came down right in the middle of his forehead but other than that he has not had his first real haircut yet.  He needs one, but he just rocks the crazy so well!

- Comes to check in every so often.  The boys will be off playing and every once in a while Kit will just come check in with me and get a hug or a kiss then be off to play again.   He does it more often when we're at someone else's house or have company over.  Just seems to want to make sure I'm still there and get his little physical touch tank filled.
- Is pretty little and slight for his age but strong!  Most 18 month pants are still too big for him especially in the waist and he is only just now barely starting to outgrow some 18 month shirts.

- Kisses fix everything with this boy.  Any time he gets hurt he needs a quick kiss and then is all better!  I think Monte did that a little bit but Kit, man, it's like Mama's kisses are magic! I mean, one second he's crying, then you kiss whatever hurts, and the next second he's as good as new!
- Loves being outside.

- Has big feelings!  He is all or nothing!  Goes from happy and sweet to angry and screaming in a split second and right back again!  We're working with him on not getting so mad but staying calm and trying to figure stuff out or just ask for help!

- Loves the kitties!  He does seem to be scared of dogs a little but I think if we get a puppy and just work with him as the puppy grows up Kit'll be fine.  He's not scared of our dogs but they are super calm and chilled out, energetic dogs make him nervous.

- Has been quite a good little hiking buddy!  He rides a while then walks a while and so on...

- Loves bow ties and ties.  I mean since he's worn them like three times ever but every time he has worn one he will not let us take it off!  At Penny and Johnathon Aaron's wedding he wore his tie all night long!

- LOVES watermelon!

- Is our bug boy!  Here he is with Penny watching a wet moth for about 10 minutes!  Picks up worms, caterpillars, beetles, and butterflies!

Our new house has some flowers that are constantly covered in butterflies.  Every day we have lived here, except when it's been raining, Kit has spent lot of time catching butterflies.  He usually has one in each hand!

- Is an official river rat!

- Has the most beautiful big caramel brown melt your heart eyes!

- Developed so much in the water this summer!  First time to swim he could not actually go anywhere but would just float in the water.  By the end of the summer, he was swimming, jumping in, and putting his whole head under!

Even in our little pool!  At the beginning of the summer he wouldn't go into the middle or let go of the edge, by the end of the summer he was "swimming" on his tummy, putting his head under, sitting where the water came up almost to his mouth, totally confident in the water.

- Says "tanks" (thanks) often when given something.
- Emphasizes words like "HHHEEEAAAVVVYYY" or "BBBIIIGGG" usually by sticking his stomach out while he says it!

- Loved fireworks!! He likes loud noises and usually gets wide eyed and says "WHOA!" then giggles!  Every time the fireworks would stop for half a second, he would say, "More Mama! More!" like I had some kind of control over how quickly the fireworks were going off!

- Is finally becoming a decent eater!  It's taken some hard work but he is eating more and more without throwing fits! haha He loves yogurt, blueberries, chik fil a sauce, peanut butter, avocado, and green bars!

- Is brave but cautious.  He takes his time exploring new things.  He wants to do anything Monte does but not always as quickly!  He gets very proud of himself when he accomplishes new tricks!

- Loves riding on things!  Especially Annie's pig!

- Is in a shoe wearing phase!  He is always finding and walking in our shoes!  He especially loves Daddy's boots which come up to his hips!

- Still has the cutest single dimple!

- Always seems to wind up naked or mostly naked by the end of the day! It is just hard to keep clothes on the boy!

- Likes wearing hats regularly!

- Is totally ready to potty train but between moving and lots going on I just haven't tackled that yet.  He'll tell me, "go poo poo Mama, don't watch me!" haha He often tells me when he's going pee too so he's totally ready, we'll start that next week I think! *fingers crossed*

- Is definitely still a Mama's boy but has started choosing Gunnar over me sometimes now.  The other day he was hurt and wanted Daddy to hug him instead of me.  Gunnar looked at me and said, "He picked me!!"

- LOVES mud!! So much!

- Loves "mooovies!!" (smoothies)

- Is definitely our physical touch boy!  He still needs wallow time regularly and often just comes by to check in and get a hug or a kiss.  If you're kneeling or sitting on the ground he'll come by and lay his head on you and say, "hello Mama" in the sweetest voice ever, usually over and over again!

- Met his second cousins!

- Definitely knows how to say "Gig 'em Aggies!" but hasn't quite figured out that thumb yet!  I have caught him just walking around talking to himself saying "Gig em aggies... gig em aggies!"

- Loves exploring!

- Moved to a big boy car seat!

- Visited College Station for the first time!

-Had his first kolache!

- Sleeps with his butt in the air or on his back usually.  He and Monte are now sharing a room so we had to do a few nights of going to sleep in Mama and Daddy's bed while we adjusted to having a playmate in our room at bedtime!

Kit Lawson, Happy Birthday!  We love you!  Happy Birthday!
