Father's Day

Julie and Rusty invited all of us out to their place for a Father's Day BBQ and swim down by the creek!  It was SOO FUN!!  The boys LOVED the water, all three of them! Actually pretty much everyone loved the water, it had been HOT and the water was some cool relief!

The Terrals didn't disappoint as usual and the meat was yummy!! Everyone ate, fished, swam, talked, and enjoyed a sweltering Texas summer evening.

Monte was excited to go out in the kayak with me!  He liked to touch the water, look at the trees, and "help" paddle.

Uncle/Mr. Brady (we're not sure what to call everyone when we're all together because not everyone is related to every kid but switching between Mr/Miss, Grandma/Grandpa, and Uncle/Aunt gets confusing too) caught a fish and Monte was very interested and very NOT all at the same time!

Penny finally got him to touch it for a brief second.

He wanted the fish to go "bye bye" haha

Once we got Monte into the water he was a little hesitant.  He has reached the age where i he knew the water got deeper and he couldn't touch everywhere. Jax is still clueless.  Haha but the more Monte was in the water the less he was afraid.  By the end of the evening, I was almost nervous about him because he knew NO fear and would just go whether someone was there or not!

He did not want to let go of Gunnar at first.

Even Kit loved the water and was SOAKED from splashing so much! He was even leaning forward, mouth wide open, trying to drink the water!

Wyatt and Gunnar used to go down to this place when they were in high school to swim, kayak, and fish.  They kept remarking about how back then they never would have thought that 7, 8, 9 years later they would be bringing their kids to the exact same place!

Jonathan caught a fish and wound up reeling him in right at Gunnar and Monte, it kinda freaked Monte out but Rusty saved the day and got them untangled.

The guys got the boys out to a sand bar in the middle of the creek and the happiness exploded!  Seriously Jax and Monte could not contain themselves!  After being out there a little while Monte forgot to be hesitant and let go of Gunnar and would even put his head and face into the water.

Even Kit got to go out into "deep" water!

Aunt Sara's bubbles were a big hit!

After it was clear that Monte was not even a little afraid anymore, I tried a full on dunk with him to see what would happen.  I bounced him and counted to three then dunked him under and pulled him out really quickly.  He was surprised but seemed to like it.  I did it twice, so he knew what to expect the second time and again seemed to like it but didn't want to do it again.  I think he was too interested in the bubbles but it was his first time to go completely under and he was ok with it.  We're hoping to slowly work our way to a strong, confident swimmer!

I think the "young" guys were having a left handed throwing contest here!

Warming up and having a snack with Auntie Clara!

Monte talked Granmolly into taking him back into the water and had a splashing game with Uncle J! Check out that belly laugh!

We decided to head down to the dam to swim and Monte and I took a kayak!

Kit was not a fan of selfies!

We all swam and explored around the dam until close to dark!  Monte and Jax did not want to be down where it was shallow but wanted to be up with everyone else!

I tried my hand at some panoramic shots and thought I did a good job until upon closer inspection...

I discovered this... couldn't. stop. laughing!

Hanging out by the dam...

Happy Father's Day!

Kit Lawson - 8 Months

My baby is 8 months old!  He is just growing and developing by leaps and bounds!  He is so fun and precious.  I'm sure he'll hate me someday for saying that but he really is so precious.  While putting him to bed tonight, he wasn't going to sleep like normal because of a late catnap so we just rocked and cooed, and I may have teared up a little just soaking him in, he loves grabbing people's faces so we talked and he grabbed my face and seemed to sleepily study me, soaking me in too.  I sure hope he knows how much I love him, my Mr Kit Boy!

- Weight
- Much like his older brother, he LOVES being outside.  Often in the evenings when "witching hour" has commenced outside is the ultimate fixer!

- Started real food regularly.  Serious this boy doesn't believe in progression, one day milk was enough, the next he needed real food to be happy.  I'm serious it happened in ONE day!  He was fussy and fussy and I could not make him happy until I fed him, the day before and every day before that he would just spit food out and make a classic Kit disturbed face!

- TOOK a bottle!  Once!  He loves to chew on them but won't actually suck on it.  I left him for the longest time I have ever left him the other day.  Gunnar kept letting me know that they were doing fine and I could stay in town.  After a while Kit finally decided he wanted to actually take the bottle for real. We were very excited!!

- Loves him some red bell peppers.

- Spends a lot of time on his knees!  It's a precursor to pulling up but he loves bouncing on them too.

- Seems to favor the dining room.

- The hallway is his happy place.  Seriously he'll sit at the doorway and cry until I open it, then crawl to the end of the hallway and just chill.  I don't know if he likes the windows, or what really, but he seriously will spend an hour just happily hanging out the end of the hallway.

- Likes to bounce with excitement a lot!
- Always ends up crawling under furniture, then getting stuck, and upset!  and yes I took a picture before rescuing him!

- Still spits a lot!
- Has started pulling up on low lying objects.

- Had so much fun at Emily and Kyle's wedding!

-Loves chewing on carrots just like Monte used to!

- Tried watermelon for the first time and was a fan!  Don't let that face fool you, he kept opening his mouth and leaning forward for more!

- Has 4 teeth.  These top two were a little more work than the bottom two and totally messed up his sleeping at night!
- Started sleep training a couple nights ago and he seems to be a quick learner.  He has always been a good sleeper but that whole teething thing messed him up so I was a little hesitant to be hopeful it would go well.  Thankfully he has been true to his previous sleepiness and will hopefully continue sleeping like a champ!

- LOVES broth!

- Seriously wants to pull up so badly!!  I guess this is the one major developmental leap that he does seem to be actually moving toward in a slow progression.

- I remember now why all Monte's clothes were stained at this age!  Oh the food, oh the smears, oh the mess! Love it!

- When Kit wakes up super early at like 5, which has been happening lately, Gunnar keeps him with him until he leaves for work then brings him to our bed between 6-6:30 and Kit gets SOOO excited when he sees me.  It almost makes up for him being up so early, almost.  He'll almost jump out of Gunnar's arms and crawl to me.

-Kit is starting to close the gap in age difference between him and Jax and remind us all that they are actually closer in age than Monte and Jax.

- This is such a classic Kit face I wanted to include it.

- Has discovered, like his brother and cousin, his love for power tools!

- Pulled up for the first time for real WHILE I was typing this blog!  Go Kit!! That whole concept of knowing that your hands are what is keeping you standing is a hard thing to grasp ;)
