Kit Lawson - One Year Old

Baby Kit is ONE!  Happy Birthday Kit Bo!

- Nicknames Kit Bo (I call him this so much that Monte calls him Kit Bo too!) Mr Kit, and Kit Boy

- 9-12 month clothes although he is starting to outgrow a lot of the 9 month pieces.
- 8 teeth

- Still gets most of his nutrition from nursing but is starting to eat more.  He's actually fighting eating real food, just when I get something figured out that he likes, it makes him angry the next time I try it.  He just doesn't get full enough from nursing though so we're still trying to figure out how to make him eat more!

- Finds himself absolutely hilarious!  He also does things for a joke now.  Like he crawls sometimes just to be funny!

- Loves the hearth.  We have our old couch in the living room still and it makes what we call our Kit puppet show!

- Loves going in the ranch truck now and climbs all over it!

So so silly!

- Has discovered that puddles are fun!

- Has started climbing a lot but usually has no idea what to do once he climbs up on something.

 - Can finally take a drink on his own!

- Loves outside!

- "Sings/hums/coos" a lot

- Transferring from two naps to one, but still takes two sometimes.  In that limbo stage that's just hard to navigate some days.

- Starting to love to read and look at books

- Still walks with his arms up in the "on guard" position

- Says "oooohhh" all the time.

- Says "mama," "uh oh," "night night," "Daddy," and "all done."

- Loves his big brother

- Loves the kitties, dogs, and horses!

- Fascinated with steering wheels!

- ...and generators apparently!

- Still rocking the cutest dimple ever!

- LOVES LOVES LOVES his Daddy!! He's always been way more of a Mama's boy than Monte ever was but lately Daddy is the best thing ever!  He gets SO excited when Gunnar gets home and goes "running" to him wanting to be held!

We love you Kit Lawson!  We were so blessed when God gave you to us!  Your little personality, both the sweet calm to the silly hilarity, and it has added joy and richness to our lives!  We love you and can't wait to watch you grow into a mighty man of God!

Weaning Calves

The ranch is weaning calves this month, which is always fun for us!  The calves are weaned into a large set of pens that are just beyond our barn.  All those babies are fun to watch and check on.  The boys LOVE it!! They think going to check the calves is just the best!  haha

A few of the first load....This view made my run a little less terrible, just a little though!

Monte woke up from his nap JUST as Gunnar and the other guys were passing our house on the way to the pens.  We threw shoes on and drove down there to watch them unload.  Monte got to ride QBall on the way back to the trailer and he loved it.

Kit found the calves mesmerizing and kept cooing back to them as they "mooed"

Monte loves getting to "help" Daddy work!  And it sure warms this Mama's heart watching!

Well hey big guy!

Nothing sweeter!

Kit was less of a fan than Monte but probably because Monte threw a big ol hissy fit about not wanting Kit to be up there with him.  (We're working on the whole throwing fits thing - work in progress right?!)

But Kit does love to "pet" the horses so that's always fun too!

So glad I thought to grab this shot!  This was Monte's first time that we remember to ride alone without someone walking beside him so that was fun!  Love those sweet chubby toddler hands!

While we were waiting for Chad to be back with the last load of calves, Gunnar unsaddled and the boys found the trough!  This was the first time Kit really seemed to get what a fun toy a trough can be! haha He SO wanted to get in but just couldn't quite figure out how to make that happen!

"Let me in there too!!"

And the classic Kit, "oooohhh!!"

Heading back to "help" with the last load!

I'm glad I was able to grab these last couple pictures!  Chad and Gunnar were resting in the shade discussing the calves, the plan with them over the next few days, how they looked, etc. and both boys, Krease, Chad's 5 year old, and Monte ran over and were both resting against their Daddy's legs.

Krease is really sweet with Monte and was playing with him and then they both ran over to soak in some Daddy time.  It's crazy to think how much children learn and pick up from just listening! I'm so grateful for the opportunity to live somewhere where not only are children allowed to be around the work, as much as safety and time will allow, but welcomed and encouraged!

Quick Trip to Dallas

We made a quick trip to Dallas last weekend to visit some of Gunnar's family and pick up a motorcycle.  Kit had had the worst week of his life in the sleep department and we were SO exhausted but decided to go anyway.  We figured we were tired anyway we might actually get more rest somewhere besides home.  Plus we had taken care of the reasons Kit wasn't sleeping.  So glad we went!  Kit slept better there than he had been at home and we got to spend a lot of time with fun family we don't get to see very often!

Monte's cap is too small but it's become his favorite and it's always on just a little bit crooked!

We made a Sonic stop on our way through Angelo and the boys just love to crawl all over Gunnar!  Cracks me up!

We got to Gunnar's cousin house around 11 and were hopeful that the boys would just transfer inside to bed.  It was our first attempt at traveling at night so the boys would sleep.  Worked pretty well on the drive but both boys woke up as soon as we got there. Haha oh well.  They were both sleepy enough to go to bed in less than an hour and slept great all night. (well Kit slept "great"....great compared to how he had been but terrible compared to his normal) The next morning Daniel and Brittany were running a 5K so Gunnar's Aunt and Uncle came over and we all hung out while Kit took a much needed nap!  We thought the boys might be a little slow in warming up to them but we were proven drastically wrong!  Gunnar, Monte, and William went to go get breakfast and Monte asked for William to carry him instead of Gunnar!  William is Sid's brother and they look a lot alike so maybe that's why Monte liked him so much so quickly!  Rachel also became a kid favorite rather quickly!  She was full of great ideas for little boys!

So the "giant dumpster" she talks about in the video, yeah what she was talking about was that giant window display thing with all the pictures on it in this picture.  There were two of them that some business just threw away and her and Brittany rescued them!  They were so pretty and made of really pretty wood and had just been tossed!!

We walked to a park before lunch and Monte had the time of his life!!

Kit has a tight grip on Uncle William!

Kit refused to be left out of did his fair share of climbing and sliding!

After a great lunch, naps for the boys, a heated game of girls vs guys Sequence and snacks, we went to a marina for appetizers.

It was so crowded that we bailed on food but we did get to watch people feed the ducks and fish and let Monte watch all the boats!

Some nice kids noticed Monte and gave him some of their bread to throw to the ducks and fish.

He was a fan!  He sure knew how to savor it too.  He would pull off the tiniest of pieces to make his bread last as long as possible!

While walking back to the truck, we passed this motorcycle and Monte said, completely unprompted and out of nowhere, "Dat Unk Reb's!!" (That's Uncle Reb's) hahaha Reb doesn't have a bike and has never been on or around a bike anytime that Monte has been around that I know of so we have no idea why he thought this burnt orange bike was Reb's!  It was super funny though so we took a picture to send Reb.

We just hung out at Brittany and Daniel's Sunday morning.  Brittany had to work so we didn't get to see her as much as we would have liked.

We should really figure out how to get Kit to stop being so fascinated with putting his fingers into people's mouths! haha

Read Monte a book and you've got a friend for life!

You know you're super cool when you have your Ninja motorcycle loaded right next to your double stroller!

Kit had a rather rough time on the way home but we think he might be our touch boy because as long as I was tickling his face or rubbing his ears he was happy.  I got him to sleep this time but later on after he had woken up when we were almost home I got to where I didn't even have to rub or tickle just as long as my hand was resting on his head he was happy! haha

Got him!
